Must be busy or something :)
So what's new here? In a nutshell:
- Monster watermelons (moon and stars watermelons--producing huge wonderful delicious fruit--yay!)
- Bees are doing good--got some new ones
- We are harvesting lots of okra, pumpkins, gourds, squash, millet, gherkins (like a cucumber), sunflower seeds, tomatillos, onions
- TONS of onions (love them!)
- Discovered hot weather "spinach"--love purslane and egyptian spinach. They are INCREDIBLY good for you. So happy to grow them!
A few disappointments:
- Goats are only giving about 2 c of milk a day! That's for 2 goats! They had their kids in March so...that's not much! Thankfully we don't drink that much a day so it isn't a big deal. Problem is they are half breeds.
- Corn--Every year I try and grow corn during the hottest part of the summer. I think my soil dries out too much during July and the corn cobs suffer. I mulch and water quite a bit just didn't work again. Perhaps next year. Atleast I know the fall corn always works well.
- Tomatoes. Wish they produced during summer heat! We had a ton during May and June and part of July, but alas, they are done until fall.
- Meat chickens...DH is now busy on all the market days...What in the world are we going to do with 50 meat chickens!? Maybe we'll have to post something on craigslist...
- Garlic...a lot of it rotted in the soil --MAJOR bummer...we planted it in October and waited this long--only to wait TOO long and some of it rotted. We should of pulled it a month ago.

| Summer bounty: onions, garlic, gherkins, tomatillos, even a beet :) |
 |
| Small sugar pumpkins--good for pies |
 |
| West Indian Gherkins--very very bitter rind, but you peel it off and the inside is JUST like a cucumber. My cucumbers are growing right now, but won't produce in the heat--these guys just LOVE it! |
 |
| You can see how the meat chickens have grown (brown roosters in background) |
 |
| This was big...but we just cut open an even BIGGER one tonight! |
 |
| She loves that watermelon! |
 |
| Moon and stars watermelon, birdhouse gourd, cheese squash |
